Work To Rule Information

December 5, 2016

Dear Parents/Guardians;

As you know, school will resume for all students in the province of Nova Scotia on Tuesday, December 6th 2016.

The work to rule job action will also be in place on Tuesday, December 6th. The NSTU has indicated that during a work-to-rule, teachers will continue to carry out their instructional duties in classrooms, but will not support any extracurricular activities including concerts, coaching teams or supervising clubs, and field trips will not go ahead. The NSTU has also indicated that teachers will arrive 20 minutes before school and leave 20 minutes after, as stipulated in the Teachers Provincial Agreement. Please see below some specific details pertaining to St. Mary’s Education Centre/Academy.

Supervision of Students:

During the work-to-rule, the main doors will be unlocked for student access at 8:20 A.M. Teachers will be available to supervise students in the morning as per normal after this time. Bus runs have been adjusted to allow for arrival as close to 8:20 A.M. as possible.

During the first recess period at school, teachers are able to supervise students as per normal.

During the lunch periods, screened adult volunteers have been secured to provide the extra support needed. School administration will also be supervising where ever necessary as student safety is the most important priority.

Students will be dismissed as per normal at the end of the school day.

Please keep in mind that the administration of the school will continue to ensure that steps are taken to create and maintain a safe and orderly learning environment at all times.

Breakfast Program:

The breakfast program will operate in a “grab and go” manner to ensure all students still have a good start to the school day.

Updated information will be posted on the School Website, Facebook page, or sent by Alert Message and letters to parents and guardians. Parents and guardians should also refer to the link, “Potential NSTU Job Action” on the Board Website for up to date information.

If at anytime you have questions or concerns, please contact the school.

Sincerely,

Jack MacDonald

Principal
